The company also manufactures a range of snowboards, shirts, jackets, jeans and hats. There is also ranges of accessories such as caps and backpacks
DC Shoes was founded in 1994 by Ken Block and Damon Way and is based in Vista, California. DC originally stood for "Droors Clothing" but since the closure of that company DC no longer has ties to this name and is known simply as DC Shoes.
The origins of the company go back to 1989 when Ken Block a snowboarder began creating screen printed T-Shirts that were known as the 8 ball brand, whilst honing his computer design skills at Palomar Community College in San Marcos, California he met Damon Way a skateboarder. Way helped Ken Block find stores to sell his 8 ball designed t-shirts. The success of 8 Ball led to the design of Droors jeans in 1992 and the company began to grow in success and size. In 1994 after a dispute over the name of the 8 ball brand DC Shoes was launched.
DC Shoes' main focus is on the designing and manufacturing of high quality footwear specialising in skateboarding shoes, snowboarding boots, Active Terrain footwear, women and childrens casual footwear and general apparel. DC Shoes has remained successful for a number of reasons, mainly its ability to sell general designs through national sports stores in America but offering unique designs through skating stores only, something that gives the DC Shoe brand a unique edge over many of its competitors.
