Superdry is a British fashion brand and part of the SuperGroup of retail brands. The brand is well known for its contemporary designs combining vintage American fabrics with pseudo-Japanese texts. The company recently floated on the London Stock Exchange.
The company was originally started in Cheltenham by Julian Dunkerton in 1985 and was known as Cult Clothing. The Superdry brand itself grew after many people identified its unique designs that reached out to a broad base of consumers with the combination of American themes and Japanese style logos and designs on many t-shirts, shirts and hoodys.
Design Director James Holden started the Superdry clothing brand in 2003, he was previously founder of the Bench fashion brand.
Superdry has leapt in popularity after a number of well known celebrities such as Zac Efron and David Beckham have chose to publicly wear the brand thrusting it into the public eye. The brand continues to attract a number of well known fans which has stood it in good stead.
In 2004 the brand opened up a Superdry store in Covent Garden and this has gradually grown to Superdry stores opening in major cities around the UK mainly near universities and high visibility highstreets. The brand now has a national presence due to its stores and the brand is going from strength to strength.
